Boron Trifluoride Methanol 14% 50% CAS 373-57-9

Description

Clear, colorless to yellowish liquid with a pungent odor, which fumes on contact with air and has a boron trifluoride content of at least 51 wt.%.

When stored for relatively long periods it may turn dark in color without losing its application-related properties. On dilution with water, hydrolysis ensues with liberation of methanol. A corrosive, highly acidic mixture of boric acid, hydroxyfluoroboric acids and tetrafluoroboric acid is produced. The vapors released into the air are corrosive. Due to its catalytic properties Boron trifluoride-Methanol adduct reacts with numerous organic compounds.
